The Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener was initiated by Governor Mark Dayton in 2011. The State Office of Tourism, Explore Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources assist local partners in planning the event. The Sleepy Eye Area Chamber of Commerce & CVB submitted an application to host the 2024 Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener (GPHO) and was selected through an application process that considered available hunting land, event facilities, travel recreation opportunities and community support.
The 2024 GPHO is scheduled for Oct. 11-12 in Sleepy Eye.
Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener is part of a weekend of festivities in Sleepy Eye that will showcase the many hunting, recreational, rural living and travel opportunities the area has to offer visitors.
This event would not be possible without the generous help of our sponsors! Thank you for your contribution to making this a wonderful celebration of our community and outdoor recreation opportunities.
Hunter Host's NEEDED! Applications are now being sought for local Hunter Hosts who are interested in taking invited guests hunting on Saturday, October 12, as part of the Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener in Sleepy Eye. “We are looking for local hunting ambassadors to help our invited guests experience pheasant hunting in the Sleepy Eye area. It is a chance to showcase our area as a place for outdoor recreation, hunting, rural living, and tourism,” said Christina Andres, Executive Director, Sleepy Eye Chamber of Commerce & CVB.
